The word “βᾰθος“ comes from the Ancient Greek and means extension in space (i.e. depth, height, breadth or fullness), but as well depth of meaning : beyond the gesture and the representation, this notions allows us to articulate movement and signification as spatial arrangements of the bodies. We can then consider the movements not for the images they evoke, but for their spatial actuality or potentiality, and for the way they modulate the tensions between the bodies, creating various spatial structures in our perception.
ΒᾸΘΟΣII is a performance-installation which questions the immediacy of the theatrical experience. The performance as installation in an open room inscribes the corporeality of the dance in a space common to the spectators and to the interprets, making it a space “where heterogeneous performances are being translated into each others”, unveiling these later in their fragility. Through the exposition of their choices, they become then within the dramaturgic frame of the piece the choreographers of their dance, appear in their fragility.
This choreographic work asks us what is the degree of involvement of our bodies in the elaboration processes of our social and political frames and in the performance of our rational choices. The complex and multifaceted perceptional ground which is to us our body makes possible to re-apprehend and rethink those frames and those choices. With this piece, I aim to create a space in which this complexity opens to us a renewed understanding of ourselves as individuals and as groups.
